Fasting and Trust
When the people of God wanted to draw nearer to God or consecrate themselves, they would declare a fast and pray 2 Chronicles 20:3; Nehemiah 1:4).
Fasting is sacred, sacrificial, and spiritual (Matthew 6:16-18). Fasting is a time of drawing close to God by demonstrating one’s commitment. Jesus is teaching that the key to aligning inside and outside, motive and action, is to keep their eyes focused on their true audience: God the Father. Scottish minister Andrew Bonar once said, “Fasting is abstaining from anything that hinders prayer.”
Fasting is a spiritual discipline based on trust. You and I trust God to meet us in our time of intimacy and to help us in areas of our lives that require His power and presence. Begin now preparing your hearts and minds for our upcoming Daniel’s Fast. Isaiah 55 reminds us that the Lord requires a certain attitude and reverence when we fast.
Every fast should have a goal. Our goal is next level trusting God and trusting others.
Prayer: “Lord, help me to be faithful on the Daniel’s fast and experience next level trust. In Jesus’ name. Amen."
