Job Announcement: Male Choir Director (with Potential Role Division)

Antioch Baptist Church – Fairfax Station, VA

Antioch Baptist Church is seeking a gifted, spiritually grounded Male Choir Director to lead and inspire the men of our congregation in worship through music. This individual will help cultivate a dynamic, Christ‑centered sound that glorifies God, uplifts the worship experience, and reflects our mission to be a six‑generation church rooted in Baptist tradition while embracing innovation and intergenerational collaboration.

There is potential for this role to be divided into two separate positions:

  1. Male Choir Director – focused on directing, rehearsing, and developing the Male Choir
  2. Accompanist – focused on providing organ/piano accompaniment for other choirs and worship services

Key Responsibilities

Musical Leadership

  • Direct the Male Choir during worship services, special programs, and community engagements.
  • Plan and conduct regular rehearsals that promote musical excellence and spiritual preparation.
  • Play organ and piano for rehearsals, worship services, and special events, with the ability to teach vocal parts.
  • Select and arrange music appropriate for worship themes, seasons, and the church’s musical style.
  • Incorporate traditional, contemporary, gospel, and anthemic styles to engage multiple generations.
  • Collaborate with the Minister of Music & Arts (MOMA) and other directors to ensure musical alignment across ministries.

Mentorship & Development

  • Encourage and mentor male vocalists of all ages in both spiritual and musical growth.
  • Provide guidance to aspiring musicians and instrumentalists within the congregation.
  • Support intergenerational music ministry through shared rehearsals and collaborative events.

Worship Collaboration

  • Partner with the Senior Pastor and MOMA to design worship experiences that support preaching themes and spiritual focus.
  • Support special services such as Men’s Month, church anniversaries, revivals, funerals (upon request), and holiday celebrations.
  • Coordinate musical selections to ensure a cohesive and spiritually meaningful worship flow.

Administrative Duties

  • Schedule rehearsals, communicate expectations, and maintain choir rosters.
  • Manage the music library and rehearsal materials for the Male Choir.
  • Work within the approved music ministry budget for music, attire, and events.
  • Ensure timely communication with choir members regarding services and upcoming events.
  • Recruit and integrate new choir members into the ministry.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Sacred Music, or related field preferred (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 3–5 years of choral directing experience, preferably in a church or faith‑based setting.
  • Proficiency in organ and piano performance, including sight‑reading and accompanying vocalists.
  • Strong background in gospel, contemporary, traditional, and anthemic musical styles.
  • Ability to serve as an additional musician for the Music Ministry when needed.

Skills & Competencies

  • Demonstrated vocal and instrumental excellence.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to teach and inspire singers at all skill levels.
  • Experience working with adult male vocalists.
  • Excellent communication skills and a cooperative, team‑oriented spirit.
  • Flexibility and creativity in worship planning and musical arrangement.
  • Familiarity with music technology preferred.

Work Schedule

  • Regular rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday prior to 1st Sunday services.
  • Additional rehearsals and performances for special services, holidays, and events.
  • Occasional travel for ministry engagements, community outreach, funerals, and other events.

Compensation

  • $9,600 annually (16‑week contract)
  • If the role is split, compensation will be adjusted accordingly
  • 1099 contract position; no benefits
